DONATIONS FOR OUR TROOPS Looking for ways to support and honor U.S. military service members who protect our security and freedom? Our soldiers need your support! The Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club (SSMAC) sends care packages out to our men and women in uniform overseas on a regular basis with simple necessities that they lack or just items to ease their pain of feeling homesick. We’ve been very fortunate to have caring individuals to support this project, but just as the number of soldiers stationed overseas continues to increase, so does the amount of care packages we send out. Unfortunately our budget can only handle so much, and so we rely on the generosity of the public. You can donate as much or as little as you like, both in the form of items and/or monetary funds. We will use the funds collected to purchase specially requested items and to cover postage for the packages. Large groups such as civic organizations, schools, youth groups, religious institutions, private companies, corporations, government organizations, clubs, etc are welcomed to organize fundraiser events or just take up a collection within your facility. Teachers can easily work with the students in having them write letters to the soldiers to show their support. In the past, we’ve had groups such as various Girl Scouts troops and local pubs organize collections, which turned out to be very successful. Get creative and have some fun with the various ways you can help. Keep in mind that your support will be shared among the soldiers and not get discarded in any way. Our soldiers are a “Band of Brothers” and “Battle Buddies” and therefore support is shared within their platoon / company with everyone. Through the numerous letters and emails we’ve received, the recipients of our care packages have demonstrated how extremely grateful they are to everyone who have shown their support. There are so many soldiers who receive very little mail from back home, and some rarely ever get anything at all. Show them we still care and have not forgotten about them. The one thing they can never have enough of is caring individuals to correspond with while they are away from home. When sending correspondence, if you’d like to hear back from the soldiers, be sure to include a forwarding postal or email address. Why not show the soldiers that their sacrifices are appreciated, not only through the packages they receive, but also through the prayers that go with them. A soldier in Iraq can't see your ribbon or the flag at your front door, but a letter they hold in their hands, to them means so much more.
